On Your Device

Quotable keeps its own copy of your quotes, categories, and notes in the app's private storage area on your iPhone — nowhere else on the device, and nowhere the app can be reached from except by you opening it.

A handful of small preferences — things like appearance, sync mode, and which quotes the widget draws from — are stored the same way, using Apple's standard UserDefaults mechanism. These are settings, not content: none of them describe you, and none of them leave the device except as part of an iCloud device backup you control.

Your Private iCloud

If you leave sync turned on, each of your quotes, categories, and notes is also mirrored to your own private CloudKit database — container iCloud.com.burningsquirrelproductions.Quotable — the same private-by-default storage Apple gives every app, tied to your Apple ID. It is not a shared or public database: only devices signed into your own iCloud account can read it, the same way only your devices can read your iCloud Photos or iCloud Drive files.

We — the developer — have no access to this database. There is no server of ours in the loop, no copy on our infrastructure, and no way for us to see a single one of your quotes. Apple's standard iCloud security and encryption protects it the same way it protects everything else in your iCloud account.

The Home-Screen Widget

Quotable's widget reads from this same on-device store through an App Group container Apple provides for sharing data between an app and its widgets — the quote it shows is picked and rendered entirely on your device. Nothing about which quote is shown, or when, is sent anywhere.

What We Never Do

Your Control

Settings → iCloud lets you switch to local only at any time. Doing so deletes Quotable's iCloud copy of your quotes (after you confirm) and stops syncing from then on — your quotes stay only on this device.

Deleting the app removes its on-device copy along with it. There's no "delete my account" step, because there was never an account to begin with.
